The Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE) strives to build learning environments in which participants are challenged to further develop their ability to reflect on work experience and to translate these reflections into action.
In order to give professionals and organisations a chance to get a taste of what the school has to offer, SBE organises “Taste of Knowledge” events twice a year.
The next Taste of Knowledge event will take place on 29 November 2013 with the following programme:
13.15 – 14.00 Introduction and opening
14.00 – 17.00 Seminars
17.00 Conclusion of the programme with informal reception
The themes of this 8th edition are:
1. Are we training and maintaining the relevant competencies?
Seminar led by Prof. dr. Simon Beausaert – Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve / Maastricht University
Learning does not stop after graduation. How can students’ learning be supported within the company, once they start working? Is offering an intensive training program sufficient?
In the past year a research project at the School of Business and Economics looked into how well we prepare students for the labour market. It was questioned if students are trained in the relevant competencies and if they are perceived as employable by future employers after their graduation. In this interactive workshop we will firstly discuss the research results in relation to how well we prepare students for the labour market. Secondly, we will look into how to organize continuing professional development of beginning and more experienced workers.
2. Managing services profitably
Seminar led by Dr. Elisabeth (Lisa) Brüggen – Assistant professor at the Departement of Marketing at Maastricht University
More and more manufacturers move into services to solidify their positions in increasingly competitive markets and grow their revenues and margins. However, research has shown that only 21% of companies succeed with their service strategies whereas 25% of solution providers actually lose money. During this seminar we will look into how services and hybrid offerings (i.e. solutions that have a product and service component) can be managed profitably.
