UM alumni and SBE students meet in Frankfurt

Working at a bank in Frankfurt? If so, perhaps you saw a group of Maastricht University SBE students visiting your company.

This week 25 students got a taste of the financial institutions in Frankfurt as part of the Frankfurt Banking Tour 2013 organised by SCOPE|FOCUS.

The tour consisted of daily visits and workshops at banks. It also included a special networking event at the Kameha Suite Frankfurt with UM alumni working in Frankfurt.

The alumni/student event was a huge success. More than 65 alumni took advantage of this unique opportunity to reminisce with current students. The conversations were a nice mix of reflecting about student life in Maastricht and tips about how to get an internship or job at one of the top financial institutions in Frankfurt.

We were very pleased with the turnout: 90 students and alumni in total. It was rewarding to see the pride these alumni show for their alma mater, Maastricht University. The alumni also expressed the warm feeling they have in their hearts for the city of Maastricht.

It was also great to learn that a few alumni who had participated in one of the previous banking tours are now working in Frankfurt at one of the banks. This goes to prove that the banking tours organised by SCOPE|Focus are successful. The alumni event certainly helps to foster these relationships.

Max Richter, Commissioner International Relations SCOPE|FOCUS 2013-2014, and organiser of this year’s Frankfurt Banking Tour said that bringing alumni together with the students is a valuable addition to the banking tour programme.
