A group of ten students from Maastricht University School of Business and Economics attended the London Economics Symposium (LES) 2013 in the last weekend of March.
Organized by the OMK Investment Club and students from Royal Holloway University, London, the event featured keynote speakers such as Dr. Alexander Dibelius, CEO Goldman Sachs Germany, Austria, Central and Eastern Europe, Clement B. Booth, Member of Board Allianz SE, Dr Nikolaus von Bomhard, CEO MunichRE as well as other partners, presidents, chairmen and CEOs of Oracle, Allan & Overy, Barclays and Morningstar UK.
Under the theme “The Road To Recovery From The Economic Crisis – Perspectives Of Different Industry Leaders”, the symposium was structured around by individual presentations and expert panel discussions. While the first half of the day focused on Europe’s current and future economic and political value, the second half examined the lessons learned from the recent financial crises and looked at the future of the finance industry.
During the lunch break, a network session was organized to allow delegates to meet and ask questions to keynote speakers on an individual basis. With delegates coming from academic institutes as varied as the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL, IE Madrid, Brown University, the Stockholm School of Economics and Bocconi University, among others, the atmosphere of the event was truly international.
Felix Carls, a second year student in International Business at SBE, organized the trip to London for ten of his peers. He was very pleased with the outcome of the symposium: “ I enjoyed the day very much and took advantage of all the speeches, the networking opportunities and so much more. The symposium gave us a unique chance to talk to some of our role models in person. Many thanks to the organizing committee for this excellent event!”
