Four groups of students competed for the award of best student entrepreneur on Wednesday 14 November.
There was a lot at stake: 10.000 euros seed money, provided by the Limburg University Fund.
After more than an hour of pitches, the jury, consisting of successful entrepreneurs from the region, professors and alumni, declared UM students Christian Nauerz, Henri Boersma, and Stig Dreyer Local Heroes of 2012.
They developed a to-do application for smartphones which helps users to manage their tasks effectively. “There are already many to-do apps but none of them really helps you to organise your work in the time available, they were more a replacement of your sticky notes with your scribbling on them. We developed and algorithm that combines urgency, importance with the time available,” the Finido team said.
It was the first time that the Limburg University Fund awarded this prize with the objective of pushing entrepreneurship of students in the region.
For this, the fund cooperated with the Maastricht Centre for Entrepreneurship that organizes activities around the theme of entrepreneurship during the Global Week for Entrepreneurship annually. The business plan competition was part of this initiative.
