Developing globally responsible leaders

The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI) is the largest community of businesses and business schools/learning institutions uniquely focused on developing a “new” generation of globally responsible leaders.

According to its website, GRLI’s vision is a worldwide network of companies and learning institutions characterised by vast action and thorough exchange of learning. GRLI’s mission is to “develop a next generation of responsible leaders” through collective and individual actions.

So far vision and mission. SBE’s director Post Graduate Education Prof. Dr Mariëlle Heijltjes has been appointed Board member and SBE has decided to participate.

My own ideas are centred around the role of alumni when initiating a programme that focuses on developing globally responsible leaders. Not only are we in need of information, examples how to approach such an initiative are welcome, too.

I know many companies where this has been a spearhead of their strategy for years now, but as we all know there are enough other companies that do not live up to expectations when it comes to societal responsibility.

It will work both ways: on the one hand are we eager to learn as a School, on the other hand we would like to develop our curriculum in a way that really contributes to responsible leadership.

In other words: if you have any experiences or ideas that could help us developing a responsible leadership programme we are willing to listen. At the same time we will do our utmost to give content to the topic in an elaborate way.

Developing responsible leaders should not remain a hollow phrase. SBE is once more ready to take up the challenge.
